That Autumnal Feeling

The nights are closing in, we’ve brought out the cold weather clothing and our taste buds are craving comfort food. Yes, it’s definitely autumn!

It’s hard to believe that it’s September already. After a fairly decent summer we’re packing away the shorts and t-shirts and shopping for toasty knits and sturdy shoes.

And what about our diet? Out go the summer salads, cold cuts and frozen desserts and in come the sumptuous stews, filling pies and hot puds. Yum!

Autumn is a magical season that evokes cosy get-togethers, rich, slow cooked meals and roaring fires.

It’s also the perfect time to pull on our walking boots and explore the great outdoors. The weather is more temperate and the landscape is a riot of glorious technicolour.

What better autumnal activity is there than gathering your family together and conquering a fell or two? Or organising a fishing trip with some friends, to relax and take in the scenery? Similarly, a day of shooting and stalking in the crisp fresh air takes some beating!

Sadly, times have changed immeasurably for us. Life isn’t as free as it once was, but  finding joy amid the dazzling hues of autumn goes some way to lifting our souls.

Thankfully, we can continue to take pleasure in food! And all of that outdoor activity builds a big appetite that craves hearty, satisfying meals. But why cook it yourself?

What could be better than coming back from a bracing day out to a home-cooked meal prepared, ready and waiting for you to devour it? No need to peel potatoes or slow cook meat, your delicious feast will require no effort at all..other than the eating of it!

Think Cumberland sausage and black pudding skewer with apple sauce for starters followed by beef casserole with shallots, in madeira wine, served on a croute with mushroom duxelle.
